Message All the rotary engines are pretty much the same. The problem is the 3rd gen doesn't use a mass air flow sensor like the 2nd gen does. 3rd gen runs speed density. With speed density there is nothing metering the air entering the motor so the ECU determines how much fuel to add based on it fuel maps. This is where the problem arrises, The stock fuel maps are calabrated to the cars stock setup. By simply adding a high flow air filter and a free flowing exhaust, you increase the amount of air that can be pumped through the motor, but the ECU is unaware of the added air and continues to run off the stock fuel map. This results in the motor running lean, which leads to detonation, which kills apex seals very quickly.
